Citrusy Green Smoothie

Smoothies are my favourite way of ensuring that I have my daily intake of healthy fruits and veggies. I wanted to have a smoothie rich in vitamins and drinking it made me feel like I am feeding my body such goodness.

The weather here down under is colder and as such it is a good time to load up with some extra vitamin c and other nutrients.

This smoothie has just five ingredients – two fruits and 2 greens with milk.

I love banana and they are such a good addition to any smoothie, in addition to the health benefits, it does add natural sweetness. The mandarin I used was seedless, this adds such freshness with that citrus taste besides being full of vitamin C.

The two greens I added were spinach and kale. Kale is so nutrient dense, known to be full of antioxidants, vitamin C, K and is good for the heart. Spinach too is rich in Vitamin C, iron, potassium, magnesium and is good for bone health.

I always add milk to my smoothie as I like to get some calcium in. You can use any milk of your choice like almond, cashew or soy.

I did not find the need to add in any honey or anything else for sweetness as I quite liked the taste as is.

Ingredients for one serving

Banana – 1 small and very ripe

Mandarin – 1 small and without seeds

Kale  – ½ cup

Spinach – ¾ cup

Milk – 1 cup or according to preferred thickness

Ice cubes- optional

Method

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. The amount of milk can be adjusted according to personal preference depending on how thick you like your smoothies.

Enjoy!!!!

  1. Thanks Manu! I have never tried mandarin in my smoothie. That sounds refreshing. I do use the spinach and banana a lot. I bet the mandarin taste really good in here.
