In light of all that has been happening, although distressing to watch, silence is not an option. I do not claim to understand the degree of hurt and the depth of emotion involved, but I share in the cause for racial discrimination to stop. Genesis 1:27 “God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” God made us all in His image and equal, then why find it so easy to discriminate. He breathed life the same into each one, then why find it so easy to deem … Continue reading Enough
Today we will look at a powerful prayer in the book of Acts. It can be read in its entirety in Acts 4:23-31 In the first half of chapter 4, we read that Peter and John were preaching the gospel and performing great miracles when they were brought before the Sanhedrin and threatened to stop teaching and healing in the name of Jesus. The Sanhedrin wanted to go beyond just threatening Peter and John but they did not, because the people were praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had witnessed. So, they were given a stern warning and … Continue reading Power in Prayer
Philippians 2:1 “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion” That verse although an incomplete sentence is exactly where I to focus on today. But as we delve deep into that one verse it is important to read further and get some context of what Paul was talking about. In verses 2-5 Paul goes on to say that if we have any of those things, then we should be like minded, having the same love, be one in spirit and purpose. … Continue reading ‘If’ and ‘Any’
“A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15) This profound statement made by Jesus was said when he taught about the Parable of the Rich Fool and can be read here Luke 12:13-21. This is not a story about whether having riches is good or bad, or if having them makes one a fool or not. Jesus wants us to understand what truly matters in life. Hoarding possessions and trying to find happiness and security in them is as futile as building your house without a foundation. Let’s look at this passage and see … Continue reading Soul over Stuff
The book of Philippians is a letter written by Paul to the church of Philippi .When he was imprisoned (Philippians 1:13-14) – a sort of house arrest in Rome (Acts 28:14-31), the church of Philippi sends Epaphroditus bearing some gifts to Paul and he sends this letter back with Epaphroditus to be read to all at the church of Philippi. As I read Philippians 1:1-11, I am always struck by Paul’s attitude while he was not allowed freedom of movement outside his present home. Does this feel familiar to us at this time. We all might be at different levels … Continue reading What defines your Identity and Service?
Today I am going to be touching upon three verses that really stood out to me this week, two of which are by Moses and one by King David. The common thread between these verses that God used to point something out to me this week is… Teach me. Exodus 33:13 “Teach me your ways so that I may know you and continue to find favour with you.” Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number … Continue reading Teach Me….
Living with limits is the new norm at the moment. Living life with some confinement and limitation is something that we are all experiencing now. Limits on where you can go – only of it is essential, we are allowed to venture out. Limits on some essential items at the grocers – so as to have enough for everyone. To tackle what was allowed and not allowed, things were quickly categorised into essential and non-essential. It does not necessarily mean what is good and what is not but rather what is deemed essential and non-essential in the current climate. Living … Continue reading Gift of Time
During these challenging days I realise that I have good days and not so good ones and on the not so good days I have to be intentional about realigning my perspective. Consider your perspective and the difference it can make in how you feel about things that happen in your life. Perspective can be a powerful thing isn’t it. The power of one’s perspective changes how we feel, think, see things and as a consequence how we behave. Luke 24:13-35 is one such story where the perspective of two people was drastically changed. The story happens on resurrection Sunday. … Continue reading Lord, Realign my Perspective
God’s ways are higher , He has a divine purpose for His timing and He will turn all that the enemy means for evil, for our good Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Waiting on God is no foreign notion to most of us. God hears our cries but sometimes He delays for a reason, because His ways are not our ways. In Psalm 69:17 David … Continue reading Raise, Strengthen and Deepen
Ephesians 5:15-20 “Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” As we continue to adapt to this changed way of … Continue reading Are we Living well?
