One of the most impactful things we can do is pray for others to come to Christ. This might mean focusing on specific individuals whose names God has placed on your heart, or it could involve praying more broadly for God to be known by people throughout your neighborhood, city, and nation.
This is something I pray for often, but intermittently when life gets busy or my mind gets preoccupied with some concerns, those matters tend to take greater precedence in my prayer life and I am less focused on praying for bigger Kingdom purposes. Yesterday, while listening to something, I was reminded of the need and urgency with which we should be praying for God to be known by many.
It is Spring here in Australia, I took my dog for a walk and grabbed that opportunity to focus and pray for a spiritual awakening.
Later, I read something by Glen Scrivener, that I share below which further cemented what God reminded me to pray about.
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells us about the Parable of the Sower. Seeds are scattered everywhere in the hope that the Gospel would be heard, understood and take root. However, in one instance birds come and snatch the seed that fell on the path.
A few verses later in Matthew, Jesus tells the Parable of the Mustard Seed and says: βThe kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.β (13:31-32)
Here are the birds again. The birds that had snatched the message of the Gospel and disrupted its influence are now sitting in the shade of the tree of the kingdom.
How incredible is it that Jesus speaks of these birds as enjoying the shade of the kingdom, even though they had initially been part of its disruption?
For those of us who live in nations founded upon Christian values, this is our reality. Christian or not, we all sit in the branches and enjoy the shade of the Christian influence within our nations. It is a good conversation starter to help us engage with those who might not believe the Gospel, but enjoy its influence.
Friends, stand firm in your faith and persist in prayer, as we are truly in a spiritual battle. Sometimes we get so caught up in the immediate concerns of our lives that we lose sight of the bigger kingdom perspective in our prayers. I know I can tend to do that, but I was reminded to stand alongside all you prayer warriors, praying for our nations, for people near and far, so that Godβs name will be known by more and more each day.
God Bless.
Your posts are always so insightful, Manu! I never thought about the birds being in both settings! How interesting! And it would do good to talk to others about the benefits we enjoy today being founded on a Christian nation(which I assume is true of Australia as well).
On a side note, I hope you get to enjoy some wonderful weather. Itβs starting to cool down here, but Iβm happy about that!

I love this Manu. The connection of the birds enjoying the shade of the trees to people/countries enjoying nations influenced by Christ. Somedays I feel as if I’m more squirrel than bird scurrying about but I take hart that nuts planted with provide shade one day.

ππyou have a good weekend too and honestly never worry about typos with me. I get it- with the amount of typos I tend to see in what I write , itβs like I am leaving a little puzzle piece for the reader to solve.

π I like that, relating to the squirrel. Clearly visiting backyard squirrel a sense a kindred spirit.

I love the connection with the birds. I havenβt thought about that before. Itβs a great point. Thank you for the reminder to keep a Kingdom Perspective. You are right, every day stress can distract us. But sharing Jesus with others is an urgent matter.

The connection of the birds was a new revelation for me too. Thank you my friend. May we indeed always remember to keep praying for others to know Jesus.

So true! We can easily get caught up in personal matters and neglect to pray for souls everywhere to come to Christ. We need the Holy Spirit to make us sensitive to even the little things we can do or say to help lead others to Christ. He will give us opportunities when we ask and the courage we need to share the gospel message in the best ways possible. Thanks Manu.

Thank you, Nancy! I need the reminder as I can get preoccupied and focused on my immediate circumstances and then am gently nudged back to look beyond.

Manu, I agree with you that prayer is extremely important in all situations. Praying for a greater kingdom purpose, similar to what my church calls global prayer. Prayers for people that donβt know Jesus and asking for strength for our fellow Christians facing persecution in many parts of the world.
We are blessed to live in a nation founded on Christian values. Peace and blessings! ππΊπ

You are so right, Manu. Those of us who live in nations founded on Christian principles still enjoy many benefits, inherited from those who’ve gone before: Christian schools producing more than their share of stellar citizens, Christian-founded hospitals orphanages, shelters and many more ministries that offer help to millions of people each year. I wonder what else might be added to the list? It might be worth having a few facts and statistics memorized, in case we’re able to point out in a conversation that the Christian influence in such nations is actually quite an advantage.

You make such a good point about having some facts memorised if the need arises to bring such things into a conversation. Thank you Nancy ππ
