Between the Now and the Next

Ever had that thought, “God, can You please sort this out soon?” I know I have. Right now, I’m in this in-between season where waiting on God feels like the biggest part of my reality. It’s definitely stretching and growing my patience. Some days, I’m steady and confident in trusting Him, and other days, I’m restless and eager to move forward into whatever’s next.

I keep getting reminded to be present and appreciate the season I’m in, but I have to admit, it’s not easy. I often find myself wanting to move on. God has been patiently nudging me over and over to not overlook the season I’m in.

Some of the things God seems to be reminding me in this season of my life (and I have to admit, I need these reminders often).

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Col 3:23). The way you steward the season you are in matters.

Instead of rushing past the tension the in-between season brings, lean into it by leaning on God. Even if you struggle to see how this time is benefitting you in any way, trust that if you lean into God, He is doing a work in you for your good.

Be faithful and serve God through the season you are in. How you serve God might look a little different depending on what circumstance you are walking through, but may this be a prayer that you include in the current moment. Lord, may I not withdraw with discouragement or frustration but open my eyes to serve you in the capacity I can in my now.

Lean into prayer and committed time with God for strength in your inner being. So, you can stand firm when the enemy tries to discourage you by focusing on what is yet to come.

Remind yourself of the truth of who God is – even thought you are yet to see how God will unfold things on your other side of waiting, trust that he is working on your behalf.

Remember how God worked things out in the past—situations that seemed uncertain at the time but now, with hindsight, are crystal clear.

Lord, reveal to us what obedience looks like today. Equip us to make the most of what you have placed in our hands at this time. May we honour you in all our ways and bring you Glory. Amen.
