A Direct call from God – Gideon

We are introduced to Gideon in Judges 6. This was a time when the Israelites were oppressed by the Midianites, Amalekites and others. They had their crops and livestock continuously looted and the Israelites often hid out in the mountains to survive. The people eventually did cry out to the Lord. He sends them a prophet to remind them that they did evil in the eyes of God, disobeyed Him, worshipped other gods and basically had turned their backs on Him. In verse 11, we read about Gideon hiding in a winepress and threshing wheat. An angel of the Lord … Continue reading A Direct call from God – Gideon

Only God be our King

In 1 Samuel 8 we read about the Israelites demanding Samuel for a king. Samuel served the Lord for quite a few years and was getting old. He appoints his sons as judges for Israel. Samuel was a godly man, but judges were appointed not by men but by God and the role of being a judge for the nation of Israel did not pass on between generation to generation of the family. In verse 3 of the chapter we read that Samuel’s sons did not follow the ways of God, and yet Samuel appointed them as Judges. Samuel excused … Continue reading Only God be our King

Easy Tuna Rice Bean Salad

Today I share a very simple and healthy lunch idea. This is easy to put together, filling and nutritious. I use tuna in this recipe, I always have canned tuna at home and it can be used to make something delicious without going into too much effect especially if time is of concern. Fresh cucumber is a lovely addition adding crunch and volume. Corn and black beans are amazing nutrition wise and quite filling. You can use either kidney beans or cannellini beans if you do not have black beans at hand. I used basmati rice this time. But you … Continue reading Easy Tuna Rice Bean Salad

Honouring God with your Obedience

Reading Deuteronomy 28 can evoke a duality of feelings. The chapter has 68 verses, the first 14 verses talk about the blessings that God would shower on Israel for obedience towards Him and the rest of the chapter, verses 15-68 lay out curses for disobedience and reading that can sometimes truly feel overwhelming. In this chapter Moses exhorted the nation of Israel with a choice. If they fully obey the Lord, they would abound in blessings in their home, in their field, in all their undertakings and He will exhort them above every nation and make His name known through … Continue reading Honouring God with your Obedience

My Strength and Shield

Psalm 28:7a “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.” This verse is such a powerful and comforting verse. These words have been and continue to be a source of comfort and strength to me. Psalm 28 written by David is an appeal to be heard. He cries out to God for deliverance and to deal with those who harbour malice in their hearts and defy God. The psalm begins with the plea to be heard but shifts in verse 6 to praise for who God is. David depicts a confidence … Continue reading My Strength and Shield

Zucchini Carrot Pancakes

This recipe is tasty and super simple to make. It is a great way to incorporate some veggies into your meal. It can be had for breakfast, brunch or even a snack. For this recipe, I used one large zucchini and one large carrot. You can easily double up the recipe of you want to make more. I had one zucchini left in my fridge that needed to be used up and this was a great way to do just that. After I grated the veggies, I put them in the microwave for about 2 minutes, giving them a bit … Continue reading Zucchini Carrot Pancakes

In Jesus Hand I place my Plea

Mathew 14:18 “Bring them here to me, he said.” This statement said by Jesus can be found in the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand and it can be read in its entirety in Mathew 14: 13-21. This week I also read Romans 8, and in verse 34 it says “Christ Jesus – who was raised to life, is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Jesus intercedes on our behalf, this intercessory role, he fulfills for us, those who are His. As I was reading this and dwelling on it, I was reminded … Continue reading In Jesus Hand I place my Plea

Blessings we Receive

Romans 5:1-6 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” I share … Continue reading Blessings we Receive

The Reason, Manifestation and Future Hope

Titus 2:11-14 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.” These verses in Titus elaborate the practical manifestation of His grace in our lives. It … Continue reading The Reason, Manifestation and Future Hope
