Solomon was known for His God given wisdom. When I think about King Solomon, two main things come into my mind, a man who asked God for wisdom above anything else and the one who build the temple for God. We read in 1 Kings 4:29-31a “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than any other man.” Solomon’s humility and desire … Continue reading Starting and Staying Faithful
1 Kings 2: 1- 9 reveals David’s final instructions to his son Solomon who was to sit on the throne as King after him. Solomon was about to step into the role his father held. A role full of responsibility, challenges and so much more. David, as he hands the reins over to Solomon did not choose to impart strategy for battle, ideas for managing court politics or how to multiply the royal treasury. After 40 years as Israel’s King, David knew and experienced the absolute necessity of walking closely to God to serve successfully and obediently in the God … Continue reading Place your Life Under God’s Authority
David is one of my favourite characters from the bible. Continuing my study through the book of Samuel and going through the life of David from shepherd to King has been rich with lessons. But as I land on 2 Samuel 11, the story of David and Bathsheba, I almost do not want to linger on this part of his story. I am aware of the sin he commits and I did not feel like dwelling on the not so triumphant aspect of his story. But if we stick to only the feel-good portions of scripture, we miss out on … Continue reading Giving Room for Sin
1 Samuel 23:4 “Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him.” David was known as a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22). As I continue to read through the book of Samuel, it is impossible not to notice a characteristic trait of David’s relationship with God. Multiple times we read David inquiring of the Lord before making any decision. He frequently sought the Lord’s counsel and direction. The Lord’s guidance was what directed his steps. It is about nine times we see him inquiring of the Lord (1 Samuel 23: 2, 4, … Continue reading Let God Lead
I have been reading the book of 1 Samuel. King Saul was jealous of David and wanted to kill him. David flourished in all that he did, the Lord’s favour was upon him. The latter half of this book details David fleeing from King Saul, David and his men hiding out moving from place to place so Saul and his men cannot get to them. During David’s time in the wilderness he did not make it all about him but surrendered to God’s plans, purposes and timing. God’s divine protection in your wilderness moments We read of David and his … Continue reading It’s not all about Me
Today I am going to be touching upon three verses that really stood out to me this week, two of which are by Moses and one by King David. The common thread between these verses that God used to point something out to me this week is… Teach me. Exodus 33:13 “Teach me your ways so that I may know you and continue to find favour with you.” Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number … Continue reading Teach Me….
