Revelations 3:15-17 “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.”
These words above were to the church in Laodicea. It was the last of the seven churches addressed in revelation. God’s issue with them was how complacent they became in their faith; they wavered in their commitment to Him.
How has the year been tracking for you till now? January is soon coming to a close. Feels quick, does it not? As the year is moving on, and we are probably in a routine, getting further with filling our planners with things to do and accomplish, let not this year be a time where we waver in our commitment to prayer and time with the Lord.
Paul writes in Romans 12:11, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord”.
Imagine as people of God, what it would be like if we do not let our focus on consistent communion with the Father slip because of busyness or any distraction. As I say that I know that at times circumstances spring up that are difficult and in such times, God knows and He will shower His grace on us when we are unable to have our usual commitment in spending time with Him.
The months ahead will include ups and downs that we will have to navigate, through it all, one thing is for certain, prayer and time in His word is the key to living lives of faith for God.
God longs for us to come to Him and spend time in His presence. To learn from Him and to seek His will and His heart. Prayer and scripture study are key in drawing nearer to Him. Both of these might look different for different people in various seasons of life. And if your time with God looks a certain way now, be open and flexible to how it can shift through the year. The vital part is to keep talking and listening to Him, and even if it is a single verse that you can manage to get to in a day, let that ruminate in your heart and mind, giving room for God to speak through it to you.
So, if there is one thing you want to look back on at the end of the year and know that by committing to it, it made your walk through this year that much better, make time in His word and prayer a priority.
And if prayer and quiet time with Him is a challenge for you, start small. Make small changes in your everyday life. Begin small but be intentional. A small prayer, a few verses a day, if you miss a day, don’t forgo the habit, continue the next day.
God’s word and Prayer is a powerful weapon against the enemy, and it is often what Satan works on to try and make us let go of by keeping us busy or distracted. Because without them, we are a boat without an anchor, at the mercy of the chaos the enemy throws at us. But when we choose to be intentional to not letting study of His word and prayer be an afterthought in our daily lives, we battle no more in our own strength but in the Lord’s.
The enemy is working against us from the very start. And one of the ways he does so is by trying to make us shift from being on fire for God to being Lukewarm. And it often begins with neglecting consistent time with Him.
Charles Spurgeon said, “Nine times out of ten, falling away from God beings in the neglect of private prayer.”
Let’s fight against the tendency to adopt this Lukewarm lifestyle and make sure that our spiritual goal this year is to consistently walk in close proximity to Him.
Father, we come before you with hearts full of gratitude that you made a way for us to come before You at any given time, it is a grace we did not deserve. Help us to steward this opportunity well and learn to be people who love your word and pray. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
God Bless.
What joy and peace we find in the Lord’s Presence. Thank you for this reminder to stay anchored to Him. Powerful post, Manu! Blessings, my friend. ♥️

Hey Manu! I like my coffee very, very hot, in fact…I often heat my coffee cup up for a few minutes in the microwave, before I add the hot coffee. If I’m going to have my coffee cold, I will be getting out my blender and tossing in plenty of ice, so that it can turn out super cold and slushy. Some folks can drink theirs in between, but like Jesus…I just can’t!! Sure It may require a little more time and effort for either of these preferred preparations, but the payoff is so worth it….how much more valuable, is the final payoff for spending a little more time w/Jesus. Just Ask Enoch!! 🤣

It is indeed is so much more valuable to put in that effort so we can stay close to God and be on fire for Him.
I am right there with you Tam.

Amen 🙏🏾. There is nothing like his presence to keep our fire ablaze. There is so much lukewarm mess in the church and many people have never truly experienced God. A lot of church people are simply following traditions. Their parents attended church so they attend church and some churches don’t require a standard holiness so people do whatever they want. God is coming back for a holy church without spot of wrinkle. Not that we can keep ourselves holy, but remaining in close relationship with God and allowing the Holy Spirit to live through us, will keep us on fire for God. 💗

Many used to walk with the attitude, “Can I do ‘this’ and still be a Christian?”
The view should be, “How close can I get to Father?”

I really like that and so agree.

Amen! It is important to stay in prayer, for it’s our communication with the Lord. Prayer and the scriptures are powerful tools to keep us on our path, guide our feet, and spend time with our Heavenly Father. Manu, a great reminder! 💖💐🌺

This is good, Manu! I know my daily life suffers without time spent in the Word. Great message as always!

With two little ones, you are in the season of life where quiet time is definitely more challenging. Don’t be hard on yourself, just choose to pick a verse and let that be something you bring to mind multiple times during the day and I am sure that will bless you. I have been there when my son was little and I could never have uninterrupted time by myself or I was too tired.

Love this post! Excellent reminder for us all. It’s been a very good year for me so far. I finally found a good church I love that truly feels like home. And last Sunday we went to a church in Myrtle Beach to see Jesse Duplantis preach. Such a treat! I’ve been a partner with his ministry for 30+ years but have never seen him preach in person. What a blessing!! But you’re right. Staying in the Word every day and developing a personal relationship with Jesus are the keys to a successful faith walk. It’s a commitment you must make every day. Keep your focus on Jesus. Give him first place. May we all stay on track through 2024!!

Me too!! The church I’ve been attending for the last 8 years has changed pastors several times. Lately, I’ve been looking for a different church for a few months now with more consistency and a welcoming feel. So I’m thrilled to have finally found one.

I can understand the unsettled feeling with changing pastors. Have been there. And to find a place that you feel settled in is such a relief.

Manu, I agree with all you’ve eloquently shared. The enemy works to distract us in our times of prayer and time in the Word. There’s one more, time with people. To balance life well we need all three. Like a three legged stool if any one of them is missing or shorted we will be off-balance.
I want to be hot rather than lukewarm in all three areas, prayer, time in the Word, and making disciples. I’m weak in the latter and to be salt and light to others I must be out and around people who are dying and need someone to point the way to Jesus.

I really like what you have added- making disciples. I want to be hot and not lukewarm and like you, I too have to invest more in making disciples.

Those who begin small (with Bible study and prayer) will soon be making time for more, and discover it’s their favorite time of day! That’s what happened to me.

How we serve might change as we get older, but being aware of not getting Lukewarm is a great start and just being faithful with what God places in front of us through various seasons of life.
