Honey Garlic Soy Salmon

Bursting with flavour is how I would describe this recipe. A beautiful balance of spiciness and sweetness with the rich sharp flavour of garlic and soy comes together to create a beautiful and balanced blend of flavours.

This recipe is from ‘The Domestic Geek’. I have always used this recipe with salmon. Although this can be used with shrimp or any other type of fish, I first made it using Salmon, the family loved it and so I just stuck with it.

This is very simple to put together and it truly appears as a recipe that calls for much more effort than is actually the case. I made it the other day when we had a couple of friends over for dinner, and they absolutely loved it. I seasoned the salmon and made the sauce in advance and after my guests arrived, it took me about 10 mins to get it from the pan to the plate.

I serve it usually with rice and some veggies, it can be plain rice or my Turmeric rice. It takes only about 15minutes from start to finish and dinner is ready.

Without further ado let’s get to the recipe.

Ingredients

Salmon – 3 pieces (with Skin)

Honey – 2 heaped tablespoons

Rice wine vinegar – 2 tablespoons

Soy sauce – 3 tablespoons

Garlic – 5 pods, chopped fine

Chilli flakes – 1.5 tablespoons or according to personal preference

Oil

Salt and Pepper

Method

  1. Season the salmon with salt and Pepper. Set aside.
  2. Mix the rest of the ingredients for the sauce and keep ready.
  3. Heat some oil in a pan and place the seasoned salmon skin side facing up.
  4. Allow the salmon to cook on that side for about 5 mins, till golden brown and turn over so that the skin side is down.
  5. Allow to cook for a minute and add in the prepared sauce ingredients that were mixed together.
  6. Allow the fish to cook through, during this time the honey garlic soy sauce will thicken.
  7. As it cooks ensure that you scoop the sauce and pour over the fish so that the fish soaks in those lovely flavours.

Enjoy!!!!

  1. This salmon looks delish! I have stopped eating added sugars, flour and grains but since honey is natural sugar this is a sauce I can eat! Also, do you think this would salmon would work with roasted potatoes instead of rice? Thank you so much for sharing this, Manu!!! I really appreciate it!!!! Love, hugs and blessings!!!

    1. I do think it can work with roasted potatoes. And I am happy that this is something that you can try. Good on you for making healthy choices, we all got to make some healthy choices especially with sugar with the amount usually present in almost everything processed these days.

      1. I was having some serious digestive issues and almost 4 months ago I did a sugar fast and it was amazing how much better my digestive system was. I had terrible sugar withdrawal to be honest. I was horrible to Nathan. My mom and some other friends think this is too restrictive but I really do feel better. It is so sad how in the US sugar (and salt) are overkill in everything. Thank you for not being annoyed with me asking about the potatoes!!!!

      2. I always welcome questions, we cannot just presume to know why someone chooses to do something. Like you mentioned, you had a reason and these choices have helped you. Glad you had some relief, trying to figure out digestive issues can be really hard.

    1. Thank you 😊. Oh no! But then I guess it is all for you 😁
Is it any type of fish, This is the first time, I am hearing of someone who is allergic to fish in general. I have known people who have specific ones like squid or prawns.
